Weather Cancellations
At Native's Way, your safety is our highest priority. Costa Rica's weather can change quickly, particularly during the rainy season. While most tours operate rain or shine, there are times when weather or safety conditions make it necessary to modify or cancel a tour.
Do tours operate in the rain?
Yes. Most of our tours continue to operate in light or moderate rain. In many cases, rain is a normal part of the Costa Rica experience and does not affect the quality or safety of the tour.
Our operations team continuously monitors weather conditions and works closely with our tour guides, transportation providers, captains, and local operators to determine whether it is safe to operate.
When would a tour be canceled?
A tour may be canceled, delayed, or modified if conditions create a safety risk, including but not limited to:
- Severe thunderstorms or lightning
- Flooding or unsafe road conditions
- High winds or rough ocean conditions
- National Park or attraction closures
- Volcanic or other natural events
- Any situation where our guides or local operators determine it is unsafe to proceed
These decisions are made solely with the safety of our guests and staff in mind.
What happens if Native's Way cancels my tour?
If we cancel your tour due to weather or other safety concerns, you will be offered one of the following options:
- Reschedule your tour for another available date.
- Transfer your reservation to another suitable tour (when available).
- Receive a full refund.
Our reservations team will contact you as soon as possible if your tour is affected.
Can I cancel because the forecast shows rain?
Weather forecasts in Costa Rica are often inaccurate and can change throughout the day. Since most tours operate safely in rainy conditions, choosing not to attend your tour because rain is forecast does not qualify for a weather cancellation.
If your tour operates as scheduled and you decide not to attend, our standard cancellation policy will apply.
Will I be notified?
Yes. If weather conditions require changes to your reservation, we will contact you using the phone number and email address provided during booking. Please ensure your contact information is accurate and monitor your messages before your tour.
Frequently Asked Questions
The forecast says it will rain. Should I still come?
Yes. Rain is common in Costa Rica, and most tours continue to operate as planned. Unless you hear directly from Native's Way, you should plan to attend your scheduled tour.
What if only part of my tour is affected?
In some cases, guides may adjust the itinerary or substitute an activity to ensure everyone's safety while still providing the best possible experience.
Who decides whether a tour is canceled?
The decision is made by Native's Way in coordination with our guides, transportation providers, captains, and local operating partners based on current conditions—not solely on weather forecasts.
